Building resilient rural futures across Somalia and the Horn of Africa.

Our Work

The MiyiPlus Hub — Five Pillars, One Anchored Place.

Everything we build sits inside a single village-anchored hub — designed together with the community, and built to run itself long after launch.

One Hub. Five Interlocking Pillars.

Every pillar works together, in one village, through one integrated community hub.
An integrated model where every pillar supports long-term community resilience.

Inside Each Pillar

Climate Resilience Building resilience to climate change through community-led environmental restoration.
WHO RUNS IT: Climate & Environment Team, together with Village Climate Committees and local farmers.
Climate resilience is the foundation of every MiyiPlus Hub. We work with communities to restore degraded land, improve water retention, and introduce climate-smart farming practices that strengthen food security and reduce vulnerability to drought.
Every solution is locally planned and community-managed—from tree planting and soil restoration to water conservation and sustainable land use. By protecting natural resources today, villages become more resilient to tomorrow’s climate challenges.

Why it matters in Somalia Recurring droughts, land degradation, and changing weather patterns threaten rural livelihoods across Somalia. Strengthening climate resilience helps communities protect their natural resources, improve agricultural productivity, and remain rooted in their villages despite environmental challenges.
WHO RUNS IT: Water, Sanitation & Hygiene (WASH) Team, together with Village Water Committees.
Access to clean water is the foundation of healthy, resilient communities. MiyiPlus develops reliable water systems, improves sanitation facilities, and promotes safe hygiene practices that reduce disease and improve everyday life for rural families.
Each water system is planned, operated, and maintained by trained local committees, ensuring long-term reliability and community ownership. By combining safe water infrastructure with hygiene education, villages gain healthier households, stronger livelihoods, and greater resilience during periods of drought.

Why it matters in Somalia Millions of people in rural Somalia continue to face unreliable access to safe water. Investing in sustainable water systems and sanitation not only improves health but also reduces the time spent collecting water, allowing families—especially women and children—to focus on education, livelihoods, and community development.
WHO RUNS IT: Renewable Energy Team, together with Village Energy Committees and local technicians.
Reliable energy is essential for thriving communities. MiyiPlus installs renewable energy systems that power health facilities, schools, water infrastructure, businesses, and community services while reducing dependence on costly and unreliable fuel sources.
Our solar-powered solutions are designed for long-term sustainability, with local technicians trained to operate and maintain each system. By providing affordable, clean energy, communities gain greater productivity, improved service delivery, and stronger economic opportunities.

Why it matters in Somalia: Many rural communities lack reliable electricity, limiting access to healthcare, education, and economic opportunity. Clean, renewable energy enables essential services to operate consistently while creating a stronger foundation for sustainable community development.
WHO RUNS IT: Livelihoods & Enterprise Team, together with Cooperatives, Local Entrepreneurs, and Community Leaders.
Strong communities are built on strong local economies. MiyiPlus helps families increase their incomes through vocational training, climate-smart agriculture, small business support, and cooperative development tailored to local markets.
Our approach equips people with practical skills, access to resources, and opportunities to grow sustainable enterprises. By strengthening local livelihoods, communities become more self-reliant and better able to invest in their own future.

Why it matters in Somalia: Limited employment and economic opportunities force many rural families into poverty and displacement. Supporting local businesses, agriculture, and entrepreneurship creates stable incomes, strengthens local economies, and enables communities to thrive where they belong.
WHO RUNS IT: Health & Digital Services Team, together with Community Health Workers and Local Partners.
Healthy communities are stronger communities. MiyiPlus expands access to primary healthcare, telemedicine, digital learning, and community information services, helping families receive essential support closer to home.
By combining healthcare with digital connectivity, we improve access to medical advice, educational resources, and vital information. Community health workers and local partners ensure these services remain accessible, trusted, and responsive to local needs.

Why it matters in Somalia: Many rural communities have limited access to healthcare and digital infrastructure. Bringing these services closer to where people live improves health outcomes, expands learning opportunities, and connects communities to the knowledge and support they need to build a more resilient future.

Four Principles Behind Every Pillar

These aren’t additional programs—they’re the principles that guide every MiyiPlus Hub, every project, and every partnership.
Gender & Inclusion

Women, youth, and marginalized groups help shape every decision, ensuring every hub serves the whole community.

Local Ownership

Communities lead, manage, and sustain every hub while MiyiPlus builds local capacity for long-term success.

Climate-Smart by Default

Every solution is designed to strengthen resilience, protect natural resources, and adapt to Somalia's changing climate.

MEAL & Accountability

We measure impact, share results transparently, and continuously improve through community feedback and learning.

No single stream carries the hub.
